Already on Tuesday, May 24, the first of three qualifying tournaments in Europe will start. The WFCQ EUR 3 will be held in Celano, Italy. Besides seven teams from Europe, one team from Africa, Côte d’Ivoire, will take part.
In the coming week, the three qualifying tournaments in Europe are on the international floorball schedule. The EUR 3 tournament will take place from May 24 to 27 in Celano, a town in the Abruzzo region of Italy. Eight teams will play in two groups (E and F) to qualify for the World Floorball Championships 2022 in Zurich and Winterthur. The only team from africa playing in the WFCQ is Côte d’Ivoire. Should Côte d’Ivoire succeed in qualifying, it would be the first participation of an African team in a World Floorball Championship final round.
Tournament format and WFC qualification
The WFCQ EUR 3 will be played in two groups. Each team will play against each other in the same group. After this phase, a cross-group placement match will be played.

The two group winners qualify directly for the World Cup in Switzerland. In addition, the team that wins the third-place playoff qualifies.
The World Cup qualifying tournaments also serve as a test for the “Future of Floorball playing system”. A maximum of 17 players will be allowed and the games will be played with three thirds of 15 minutes each.
