Canada Floorball has announced the roster for the World Floorball Championships 2022 in Switzerland. Among the 20 players are many well-known names, but also some promising young talents.
Yesterday Floorball Canada announced the roster for the World Floorball Championships 2022 in Zurich and Winterthur. The coaching staff relies on some proven names, but also uses WFC newcomers. Among the best-known names in Team Canada are Brandon Barber and Valtteri Viitakoski. Already at the WFC 2020 in Helsinki, the duo provided some spectacular moves and many goals. In 2022, spectators can once again look forward to the dynamic duo from Canada.
It will be a special tournament for young talent Steven Friedli. For the 19-year-old, it will be a home game. The native Canadian lives in Switzerland and plays for Zug United in the Under 21 league Friedli made his first appearance for the Canadian national team at the WFC qualifying tournament in April 2022 and will be wearing the Maple Leafs’ jersey for just the second time at the WFC 2022. On the other end of the spectrum is Matthew Smith. 2022 marks the fifth time his name appears on the roster for the World Floorball Championships. The veteran started his national team career for Canada at the WFC 2012 in Switzerland.
For coach Otto Moilanen, it’s also a return to familiar territory. The Finn coached Ad Astra Sarnen (now Ad Astra Obwalden) in the 2017/2018 season. After the disappointing elimination in the game for the 11th place against Poland, Team Canada is all the more motivated. Their goal is clear: they want to be the best non-European team of the Tournament.
