GERMANY VS SWEDEN, 12:00 AT THE AXA ARENA, WINTERTHUR
In the first match-up of the 2022 WFC, Germany are to face reigning world champs Sweden at the AXA Arena in Winterthur. Martin Bruckner’s men are more than eager to stretch the primus of international floorball to their limits in the opening game of the 2022 competition.
CZECH REPUBLIC VS. LATVIA, 13:30 AT THE SWISS LIFE ARENA, ZÜRICH
The odds are clearly on the Czech side in this game. Especially with Superstar Filip Langer. Nonetheless, one should never underestimate the Latvian side, as Arto Riihimaki already proved with their big win over Switzerland at this year’s World Games. It is beyond doubt that the Latvian hopes for an upset in their WFC opener will rest on veteran Artis Raitums, who scored the impressive number of 46 points in 46 WFC-Games. However, the squad from Czechia have also been riding the wave of success as they claimed the crown at the Euro Floorball Tour in September.
FINLAND VS. SLOVAKIA, 15:00 AT THE AXA ARENA, WINTERTHUR
With Finland, another titan of international floorball is to start into their 2022 WFC campaign on Saturday. The team from the land of thousand lakes seek for revenge after falling short to archrivals Sweden in front of their home fans at the last edition of the WFC in Helsinki. The “Suomi”, however, will first have to show that they are a title contender against the aspiring team from Slovakia. Thus, fans can look forward to a mouth-watering clash in Winterthur.
OPENING CEREMONY, 16:40
Make sure you be at your seat at 16:30h to be ready for the colorful Opening Ceremony right before Host Switzerland starts into the tournament. During the opening celebrations, thirty-six dancers will transform the Swiss Life Arena into a colourful extravaganza, accompanying the official WFC song “Gold”, written by the Winterthur singer Andryy. As a highlight, Federal Councillor Viola Amherd will personally greet the spectators in the arena. With the Minister of Sport looking on, our national team will then get the tournament going, and head against Norway to stir up the Swiss Life Arena for the first time.
SWITZERLAND VS. NORWAY, 17:00 AT THE SWISS LIFE ARENA, ZÜRICH
All eyes will also be on hosts Switzerland during their big opening game to the 2022 WFC campaign. After the strong performance by the Swiss side against the primus from Sweden, David Jansson’s men want to prove in front of their euphoric fans that they have what it takes to finally lift the WFC trophy for the first time in floorball history. Before the Swiss can dream about such an exploit, however, they will have to face the challenging squad from Norway. Will the hosts be able to handle the pressure or already stumble over the first stepping stone?
SINGAPORE VS. ESTONIA, 18:00 AT THE AXA ARENA, WINTERTHUR
In the fifth game of the opening day, Singapore want to make up for their defeat against Estonia in the last edition of the WFC. Risto Lall’s squad, however, are hungry to prove that the hard work of the last years has paid off and are eager to confirm the upsing over the last editions of the WFC.
THAILAND VS. CANADA, 20:00 AT THE SWISS LIFE ARENA, ZÜRICH
In the last game of the day Canada faces Thailand. While Canadas Valtteri Vitakoski and Brandon Barber promise spectacle, Thailand counts on a well-rehearsed team. For Canadas young player Steven Friedli the first game will be a special one. He is born and raised in Switzerland, so it will be kind of a home game for him.
